Word to WebP Conversion FAQ
Is the Word to WebP converter free?
+
Yes. One conversion an hour is free, with no account needed, for a file within the free size limit. A paid plan removes the hourly limit and the size limit, and lets you add several files to one job.
Will the WebP open directly in a browser?
+
Yes, and the Word would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for WebP and none for Word, so a Word link forces a download while a WebP renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application. WebP is typically 25-35% smaller than an equivalent JPG and far smaller than an animated GIF, with universal browser support since 2020.
Does the WebP output support transparency?
+
The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the WebP later without changing format again.
Can I convert only part of the Word instead of all of it?
+
No. There is no page setting for Word files, so every page is rendered as its own WebP and you keep the ones you need. If you only want the first page, convert the Word to PDF and then use the PDF to WebP converter, whose Pages menu offers First page only.
Do I get one image per page?
+
Yes. Each page renders as its own WebP file, numbered in page order, so a one-page document gives a single WebP and a longer one gives one image per page.
How big a Word file can I convert to WebP?
+
Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.
Can I convert many Word files to WebP at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Does the Word to WebP converter work on phones and tablets?
+
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end.
Which browsers does the converter support?
+
Chrome, Firefox, Safari (15+), Edge, and Opera. The converter uses standard `<input type="file">` upload — no WebAssembly or PWA dependency — so even older browsers work to upload a Word and download the WebP.
Are my Word files kept private?
+
Yes. Uploaded Word files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted WebP are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy. A Word document is the expected deliverable anywhere a human will edit the text afterwards, from academic submissions to corporate reports.
