How do I extract frames from a WMV video as Image images?

Upload the WMV and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one Image from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as an Image image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. WMV is Windows Media Video, Microsoft’s ASF-based format from the Windows XP era. Image here is a generic target: the converter picks a sensible raster format for the source rather than forcing one on you.

Can I get the Image frames without the subtitles?

Only if the WMV never had them burned in, because WMV has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything a WMV shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every Image the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. WMV is effectively a dead end: macOS, iOS, Android and every browser need third-party decoders, and some WMV files carry DRM that cannot be converted at all.

Does the Image output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the Image later without changing format again. Choosing the target automatically means you get a file that opens anywhere without having to reason about codecs first.

How big will the Image files be?

Larger than you might expect, because Image keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. A multi-page source produces one image per page, each as a separate download.

At what resolution does each extracted Image frame come out?

The same resolution as the WMV video — a 1080p WMV produces 1920×1080 Image frames; a 4K WMV produces 3840×2160 Image frames. Use the resize utility after extraction if you want smaller thumbnails or social-media-sized crops.

Can I extract every single frame from WMV as Image?

Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 Image images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.

Will the extracted Image images preserve the WMV color grading?

HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the WMV as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR WMV can look flat or washed out as an Image. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.

What is the file size of one extracted Image frame?

Depends on resolution and Image codec. A 1080p PNG frame is typically 2 to 5 MB; a 1080p JPG at quality-85 is 200 to 500 KB; a 4K PNG is 6 to 15 MB. At the extreme, every-frame PNG extraction of a 10-minute 1080p WMV produces ~50 GB total.

How long does frame extraction from WMV to Image take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.

Can I extract frames at specific timestamps in the WMV?

One at a time. Single Frame takes one time in seconds (for example 83 for 1:23) and saves that frame as an Image. There is no field for a list of times, so run the conversion again for each extra timestamp.

Is my WMV video private during frame extraction?

Yes. Uploaded WMV files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared.
