How do I convert WebP to ICO without losing image quality?

For lossless ICO (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy ICO (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. WebP offers both lossy and lossless modes, with alpha transparency and animation available in either. A single ICO holds several renderings of the same icon at different sizes — 16x16 through 256x256 — so the OS can pick the sharpest one.
Does converting WebP to ICO restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the WebP are ordinary pixel data now, and ICO preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. ICO lets one file serve a taskbar, a file listing, a desktop shortcut and a browser tab without any of them looking resampled. WebP is still second-class outside the browser — print workflows, older Office builds and some phone galleries do not accept it.
My WebP is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because ICO is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. ICO is not a general image format: it is square, small, and no photo editor treats it as a first-class working file.
Does WebP to ICO conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when ICO is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware ICO instead of ICO=JPG. ICO is the Windows icon format, and it is the only image format browsers will accept at /favicon.ico.
What about EXIF metadata when converting WebP to ICO?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the ICO. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many WebP files to ICO at once?

What resolution will my ICO file have?

Default is 1:1 — your ICO keeps the pixel dimensions of the source WebP. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my WebP files private during conversion?
