How do I convert PSD to JPG without losing image quality?

What happens to the layers in my PSD file?

They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because JPG has no structure to hold them. Keep the PSD as the working master and treat the JPG strictly as an export. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised. JPG has no transparency, degrades further every time it is re-saved, and produces visible blocking on flat colour and sharp text.

Will transparency survive converting PSD to JPG?

No — JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent regions are composited against a background colour, white unless you change it. That is the single most common surprise in this conversion: a logo that looked clean on a dark page arrives with a white box around it. Set the matte colour to match wherever the image will sit, or choose a target that keeps alpha.

How much quality will I lose going from PSD to JPG?

At quality 80-85 the difference is invisible at normal viewing distance and the file typically drops by 60-80%. The catch is that it is one-way: re-saving the JPG repeatedly compounds the artefacts each time. Keep the PSD as the master and regenerate the JPG from it whenever you need a new size.

Does PSD to JPG conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when JPG is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware JPG instead of JPG=JPG. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.

Will my color profile (sRGB / Adobe RGB / CMYK) survive PSD to JPG?

Embedded ICC color profiles are read from PSD and re-attached to the JPG output where the format supports it (JPG, PNG, TIFF, WebP). Formats without profile support fall back to sRGB, which keeps colors consistent across most modern displays.

What about EXIF metadata when converting PSD to JPG?
