How do I convert JPG to WebP without losing image quality?

Upload your JPG file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for WebP. For lossless WebP (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy WebP (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded. WebP offers both lossy and lossless modes, with alpha transparency and animation available in either. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Can I get transparency once the image is WebP?

The WebP format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JPG has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel WebP provides has something to store. WebP is typically 25-35% smaller than an equivalent JPG and far smaller than an animated GIF, with universal browser support since 2020.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to WebP?

It is converted to sRGB, because WebP has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original JPG rather than the WebP. WebP is still second-class outside the browser — print workflows, older Office builds and some phone galleries do not accept it.
Does JPG to WebP conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when WebP is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware WebP instead of WebP=JPG. WebP is Google’s 2010 image format, built from the VP8 keyframe encoder and intended to replace JPG, PNG and GIF at once.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JPG to WebP?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the WebP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many JPG files to WebP at once?

What resolution will my WebP file have?

Default is 1:1 — your WebP keeps the pixel dimensions of the source JPG. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my JPG files private during conversion?
