PNG to TIFF Conversion FAQ
How do I convert PNG to TIFF without losing image quality?
+
Upload your PNG file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for TIFF. For lossless TIFF (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy TIFF (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel. TIFF is a container more than a codec: it can hold uncompressed, LZW, ZIP or even JPEG data, at up to 32 bits per channel, with multiple pages in one file.
Does PNG to TIFF conversion preserve transparency?
+
Transparency survives when TIFF is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware TIFF instead of TIFF=JPG. TIFF is the Tagged Image File Format from 1986, and it is the format scanning, publishing and archiving industries standardised on.
What about EXIF metadata when converting PNG to TIFF?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the TIFF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many PNG files to TIFF at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution will my TIFF file have?
+
Default is 1:1 — your TIFF keeps the pixel dimensions of the source PNG. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my PNG files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded PNG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted TIFF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why is my converted TIFF bigger or smaller than I expected?
+
A PNG with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless TIFF (PNG, TIFF). A lossless PNG often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP. TIFF’s flexibility is its weakness — two TIFFs can be structured so differently that software reading one fails on the other — and files are large.
Can I use the converted TIFF commercially?
+
Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with you (or whoever held it on the source PNG). We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the TIFF output.
