How do I convert JPG to SVG without losing image quality?

Upload your JPG file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for SVG. For lossless SVG (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy SVG (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded. An SVG stores shapes as mathematical paths and text as text, not as pixels, so it is a document rather than a raster grid.
Can a JPG photo really be converted into a clean SVG?

Only up to a point, and it is worth setting expectations first. Tracing turns pixel regions into paths, which works well for logos, line art and flat-colour graphics with clear boundaries. A photograph has no such boundaries, so the trace yields either a crude posterised approximation or an SVG with tens of thousands of paths that is larger and slower to render than the original. SVG cannot represent a photograph — tracing one produces either a crude approximation or a file larger than the original raster.
Can I get transparency once the image is SVG?

The SVG format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JPG has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel SVG provides has something to store. SVG renders perfectly at any size, stays editable, is searchable and diffable as plain text, and is usually a fraction of the size of an equivalent PNG.
Does converting JPG to SVG restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JPG are ordinary pixel data now, and SVG preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. JPG has no transparency, degrades further every time it is re-saved, and produces visible blocking on flat colour and sharp text.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to SVG?

It is converted to sRGB, because SVG has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original JPG rather than the SVG.
Does the SVG keep the EXIF data from my JPG?

By default yes, wherever the target has somewhere to put it — camera model, exposure settings, lens and GPS coordinates all carry across. GPS is the field worth thinking about: if the image is going to be published, use the strip-metadata option so you are not broadcasting where the photo was taken. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
How does text inside the SVG behave?

In an SVG, text is real text — selectable, searchable and re-styleable, and it needs the font to be available or embedded to render as intended. Converting away from SVG turns that text into pixels or into document text depending on the target; converting towards SVG only produces real text if the source had a text layer to begin with.
Does JPG to SVG conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when SVG is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware SVG instead of SVG=JPG. SVG is the W3C’s XML-based vector format, a recommendation since 2001 and now native to every browser.
Will my color profile (sRGB / Adobe RGB / CMYK) survive JPG to SVG?

Embedded ICC color profiles are read from JPG and re-attached to the SVG output where the format supports it (JPG, PNG, TIFF, WebP). Formats without profile support fall back to sRGB, which keeps colors consistent across most modern displays.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JPG to SVG?
