How do I extract frames from an FLV video as JPG images?

Upload the FLV and the converter exposes a frame-extraction picker: every Nth frame, frames at specific timestamps, or one frame per second. Each chosen frame is encoded as an individual JPG file and the full set is bundled into a ZIP archive for download. FLV is the Flash Video container that carried essentially all web video from roughly 2003 until Flash was switched off at the end of 2020. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Can I get the JPG frames without the subtitles?

Only if the FLV never had them burned in, because FLV has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything an FLV shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every JPG the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. No current browser, phone or TV can play FLV — anything still in this container has to be moved out of it to remain watchable.
What quality setting should I use for the JPG output?

Quality 85 is the sensible default and the one used unless you change it — visually indistinguishable from the source at normal viewing distance, at roughly a fifth of the size of a lossless equivalent. Push to 95 for anything that will be edited or printed, and drop to 70 for thumbnails where size dominates. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded.
At what resolution does each extracted JPG frame come out?

Can I extract every single frame from FLV as JPG?

Yes, but be careful with file count — a 30fps 1-minute FLV produces 1,800 JPG frames. We pack them into a ZIP automatically. For longer clips, the "1 per second" option (60 frames) or specific timestamps gives a manageable result.
Will the extracted JPG images preserve the FLV color grading?

Yes — colour is decoded with the matrix the source FLV uses (BT.709 for HD, BT.2020 for 4K HDR). HDR sources are tone-mapped to SDR on extraction to JPG because most JPG formats (PNG, JPG) cannot store HDR pixel ranges natively.
What is the file size of one extracted JPG frame?

Does the extracted JPG retain EXIF camera metadata?

How long does frame extraction from FLV to JPG take?

Frame extraction is fast — typically 20 to 30% of source duration on the standard pipeline. A 5-minute FLV → JPG bundle finishes in about a minute regardless of frame count, because the bottleneck is the JPG encoder, not the FLV demuxer.

Why are my extracted JPG frames blurry?

Almost always motion blur baked into the FLV source — the camera or subject was moving when the frame was captured. Pick timestamps from static scenes, or extract adjacent frames and choose the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize detail that was not there.
