How do I extract frames from a 3GP video as PNG images?

Upload the 3GP and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one PNG from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a PNG image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. 3GP is the container the 3GPP standardised for early mobile phones, when video had to fit a 176x144 screen and a 2G data plan. PNG was designed in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF, and became the web’s default lossless image format.
Can I get the PNG frames without the subtitles?

Only if the 3GP never had them burned in, because 3GP has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything a 3GP shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every PNG the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. 3GP is capped at low resolutions and mono speech-grade audio; upscaling it will not restore detail that was never captured.
Does the PNG output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the PNG later without changing format again. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
How big will the PNG files be?

Larger than you might expect, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
At what resolution does each extracted PNG frame come out?

The same resolution as the 3GP video — a 1080p 3GP produces 1920×1080 PNG frames; a 4K 3GP produces 3840×2160 PNG frames. Use the resize utility after extraction if you want smaller thumbnails or social-media-sized crops.
Can I extract every single frame from 3GP as PNG?

Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 PNG images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.
Will the extracted PNG images preserve the 3GP color grading?

HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the 3GP as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR 3GP can look flat or washed out as a PNG. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
What is the file size of one extracted PNG frame?

Depends on resolution and PNG codec. A 1080p PNG frame is typically 2 to 5 MB; a 1080p JPG at quality-85 is 200 to 500 KB; a 4K PNG is 6 to 15 MB. At the extreme, every-frame PNG extraction of a 10-minute 1080p 3GP produces ~50 GB total.
How long does frame extraction from 3GP to PNG take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
Can I extract frames at specific timestamps in the 3GP?

One at a time. Single Frame takes one time in seconds (for example 83 for 1:23) and saves that frame as a PNG. There is no field for a list of times, so run the conversion again for each extra timestamp.
Is my 3GP video private during frame extraction?
