How do I extract frames from a 3GP video as JPEG images?

Upload the 3GP and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one JPEG from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a JPEG image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. 3GP is the container the 3GPP standardised for early mobile phones, when video had to fit a 176x144 screen and a 2G data plan. JPEG is the same standard as JPG and JFIF — the four-letter extension is the original, and the three-letter one exists only because of the DOS 8.3 filename limit.
Can I get the JPEG frames without the subtitles?

Only if the 3GP never had them burned in, because 3GP has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything a 3GP shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every JPEG the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. 3GP is capped at low resolutions and mono speech-grade audio; upscaling it will not restore detail that was never captured.
At what resolution does each extracted JPEG frame come out?

The same resolution as the 3GP video — a 1080p 3GP produces 1920×1080 JPEG frames; a 4K 3GP produces 3840×2160 JPEG frames. Use the resize utility after extraction if you want smaller thumbnails or social-media-sized crops.
Can I extract every single frame from 3GP as JPEG?

Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 JPEG images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.
Will the extracted JPEG images preserve the 3GP color grading?

HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the 3GP as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR 3GP can look flat or washed out as a JPEG. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
What is the file size of one extracted JPEG frame?

Depends on resolution and JPEG codec. A 1080p PNG frame is typically 2 to 5 MB; a 1080p JPG at quality-85 is 200 to 500 KB; a 4K PNG is 6 to 15 MB. At the extreme, every-frame PNG extraction of a 10-minute 1080p 3GP produces ~50 GB total. The bitstream is identical to a .jpg: DCT-based lossy compression, usually with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, wrapped in a JFIF or Exif header.
How long does frame extraction from 3GP to JPEG take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
Can I extract frames at specific timestamps in the 3GP?

One at a time. Single Frame takes one time in seconds (for example 83 for 1:23) and saves that frame as a JPEG. There is no field for a list of times, so run the conversion again for each extra timestamp.
Is my 3GP video private during frame extraction?

Yes. Uploaded 3GP files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted JPEG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why are my extracted JPEG frames blurry?

Almost always motion blur baked into the 3GP source — the camera or subject was moving when the frame was captured. Pick timestamps from static scenes, or extract adjacent frames and choose the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize detail that was not there.
Can I extract one JPEG per scene change rather than per timestamp?

No. The converter has no scene detection and no one-per-second mode: it saves either a single frame at the second you enter or every frame. For one image per scene, extract single frames at the times where the scenes change.
