How do I convert WebP to GIF without losing image quality?

Upload your WebP file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for GIF. For lossless GIF (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy GIF (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. WebP offers both lossy and lossless modes, with alpha transparency and animation available in either. GIF is lossless but capped at a 256-colour palette per frame, using LZW compression and single-colour binary transparency.
Does converting WebP to GIF restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the WebP are ordinary pixel data now, and GIF preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. GIF animation plays absolutely everywhere — email clients, forums, chat apps and browsers all render it with no codec negotiation. WebP is still second-class outside the browser — print workflows, older Office builds and some phone galleries do not accept it.
Does WebP to GIF conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when GIF is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware GIF instead of GIF=JPG. GIF is CompuServe’s 1987 format, and the only reason it survived is that it animates.
What about EXIF metadata when converting WebP to GIF?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the GIF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many WebP files to GIF at once?

What resolution will my GIF file have?

Default is 1:1 — your GIF keeps the pixel dimensions of the source WebP. If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize-image/ after conversion, or chain it with the /image-resize/ utility.
Are my WebP files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded WebP files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted GIF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why is my converted GIF bigger or smaller than I expected?

A WebP with strong existing compression (lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to lossless GIF (PNG, TIFF). A lossless WebP often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content — photos compress differently from line art. GIF’s 256-colour ceiling wrecks gradients and video stills, and its file sizes for animation are an order of magnitude worse than WebP or MP4.
