MOBI to EPUB Conversion FAQ
How do I convert a MOBI file to EPUB?
+
Upload your MOBI file using the picker above and the converter detects the source type and runs the MOBI → EPUB pipeline. The result downloads automatically when conversion completes; no account needed for one-off conversions. MOBI is the Mobipocket format Amazon bought in 2005 and used as the original Kindle format. EPUB is the open ebook standard from the International Digital Publishing Forum, now maintained by the W3C.
Will the converted book keep its cover, chapters and table of contents?
+
Yes where both formats can express them. Cover art, chapter divisions and a navigable table of contents are structural metadata, so they carry across rather than being flattened into the text. Footnotes and index entries are the fragile parts — they degrade into inline text on targets with no anchor mechanism.
Why does my MOBI file refuse to convert?
+
DRM, in almost every case. A protected MOBI is encrypted and tied to an account, and no converter can decrypt it — ours included. Files you created yourself, or bought from a DRM-free store, convert without any trouble at all. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI for new publishing in 2022, and the format cannot express modern CSS, embedded fonts or fixed layout.
Is the MOBI to EPUB converter free?
+
Yes — basic MOBI → EPUB conversion is free with no registration required. Premium adds higher per-file size limits, more parallel batch workers, longer retention, and removes ads.
How big a MOBI file can I convert to EPUB?
+
Free accounts: up to 100 MB per MOBI file. Premium: typically 1 GB per file depending on the source type. Very large files are split into chunks server-side when the EPUB format allows.
Will conversion change the content of my MOBI?
+
Conversion preserves all information that both MOBI and EPUB can represent. Format-specific features the EPUB cannot represent (e.g. vector data in raster output, formulas in plain-text output) are rasterized or stripped — the result page lists what changed. A MOBI wraps PalmDOC-compressed HTML with Amazon’s indexing extensions bolted on top. An EPUB is a ZIP archive of XHTML and CSS with a manifest — essentially a small website packaged as a book.
Can I convert many MOBI files to EPUB at once?
+
Yes — drop multiple MOBI files into the upload zone and they are queued in parallel. Premium runs more parallel workers; on a 50-file batch this is the difference between minutes and seconds.
Does the MOBI to EPUB converter work on phones and tablets?
+
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end.
Which browsers does the converter support?
+
Chrome, Firefox, Safari (15+), Edge, and Opera. The converter uses standard `<input type="file">` upload — no WebAssembly or PWA dependency — so even older browsers work to upload a MOBI and download the EPUB.
Are my MOBI files kept private?
+
Yes — uploaded MOBI files are processed in isolated workers and deleted within minutes. We never view, retain, or share content. The retention window is at /privacy/. MOBI is readable by every Kindle ever made, including the earliest hardware that never learned any newer format.
What if the EPUB download does not start automatically?
+
Disable any pop-up blocker, then click the download button manually. The result link stays active for 24 hours, so if your network drops mid-download you can retry from the result page without re-uploading the MOBI.
How long does MOBI to EPUB conversion take?
+
Typically seconds for small files, a minute or two for files near the size cap. The server-side pipeline runs on dedicated workers — your laptop CPU is not the bottleneck and a slow phone uploads at exactly the same conversion speed as a fast desktop. EPUB reflows text to any screen size and any font size, which is what makes it readable on a phone as well as an e-reader. EPUB has no fixed pagination, so page numbers are meaningless, and complex layout — tables, equations, multi-column — degrades badly.
