How do I convert JPEG to GIF without losing image quality?

Upload your JPEG file and the converter applies format-aware quality optimization for GIF. For lossless GIF (PNG, TIFF, BMP) every pixel is preserved; for lossy GIF (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. The bitstream is identical to a .jpg: DCT-based lossy compression, usually with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, wrapped in a JFIF or Exif header. GIF is lossless but capped at a 256-colour palette per frame, using LZW compression and single-colour binary transparency.
Can I get transparency once the image is GIF?

The GIF format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JPEG has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel GIF provides has something to store. GIF animation plays absolutely everywhere — email clients, forums, chat apps and browsers all render it with no codec negotiation.
Does converting JPEG to GIF restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JPEG are ordinary pixel data now, and GIF preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. JPEG shares every JPG limitation — no alpha, generational loss on re-save — with the added nuisance of software that treats the two extensions differently.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to GIF?

It is converted to sRGB, because GIF has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original JPEG rather than the GIF. GIF’s 256-colour ceiling wrecks gradients and video stills, and its file sizes for animation are an order of magnitude worse than WebP or MP4.
Does JPEG to GIF conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when GIF is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background. If you need transparency in the result, target a transparency-aware GIF instead of GIF=JPG. GIF is CompuServe’s 1987 format, and the only reason it survived is that it animates.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JPEG to GIF?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the GIF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert many JPEG files to GIF at once?

What resolution will my GIF file have?
