How do I extract frames from an MOV video as JPG images?

Upload the MOV and the converter exposes a frame-extraction picker: every Nth frame, frames at specific timestamps, or one frame per second. Each chosen frame is encoded as an individual JPG file and the full set is bundled into a ZIP archive for download. MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container, shipped in 1991 and still the format an iPhone, iPad or Final Cut Pro timeline writes by default. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Will subtitles show up in the JPG frames I extract?

Not if they are a real subtitle track. An MOV keeps subtitles as their own stream and the player draws them over the picture at playback time, so the decoded frame the converter writes out as a JPG has clean pixels underneath. Subtitles that were burned into the video before it ever became an MOV are a different matter — by then they are part of the image and every extracted frame keeps them.
Can I pull one JPG out of each chapter of the MOV?

Not as a single button, but the MOV makes it straightforward: chapter marks are stored in the container as named timestamps, so read the chapter list off the file and paste those times into the timestamp field. You get one JPG per chapter, in order, which is the usual way of building thumbnails for a long recording. Sources with no chapter marks leave you picking scenes by eye instead. MOV is the format professional editors ask for, because it survives repeated round-trips through Final Cut Pro, Premiere and DaVinci Resolve without generational loss.
What quality setting should I use for the JPG output?

Quality 85 is the sensible default and the one used unless you change it — visually indistinguishable from the source at normal viewing distance, at roughly a fifth of the size of a lossless equivalent. Push to 95 for anything that will be edited or printed, and drop to 70 for thumbnails where size dominates. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded.
At what resolution does each extracted JPG frame come out?

The same resolution as the MOV video — a 1080p MOV produces 1920×1080 JPG frames; a 4K MOV produces 3840×2160 JPG frames. Use the resize utility after extraction if you want smaller thumbnails or social-media-sized crops.
Can I extract every single frame from MOV as JPG?

Yes, but be careful with file count — a 30fps 1-minute MOV produces 1,800 JPG frames. We pack them into a ZIP automatically. For longer clips, the "1 per second" option (60 frames) or specific timestamps gives a manageable result.
Will the extracted JPG images preserve the MOV color grading?

Does the extracted JPG retain EXIF camera metadata?

The MOV container does not store per-frame EXIF the way a still camera does, so the JPG files come out with empty EXIF. We embed a `creation_time` field pointing at the source frame timestamp so you can re-sort the bundle by capture order.
How long does frame extraction from MOV to JPG take?

Frame extraction is fast — typically 20 to 30% of source duration on the standard pipeline. A 5-minute MOV → JPG bundle finishes in about a minute regardless of frame count, because the bottleneck is the JPG encoder, not the MOV demuxer.
